2025 Flight Information

Take Up Slack (https://takeupslack.com/) is now the book of record for our flight information.  You can view your flight information on the Take Up Slack website.

As well, we are exporting the data from the Take Up Slack system and importing it into our database.  Please note that our database does not get updated in real time.  The intent is to update our database about once per week, usually after the weekend.  Here are the links to our exported copy of the 2025 Take Up Slack flight data.

2024 Flight Information

The 2024 flight information has been uploaded into our Historic Flights database.  The Historic Flights are available for members only.    Links to the 2024 flight information will be left on this page until the majority of our members have completed their 2025 check flights.

Ropes

The club is presently using Superdan 3/8" rope which has a breaking strength of 3920 lbs. The club’s tow ropes are 200 feet long.

The club uses a Tost metal weak link of 1100 pound (500 kilo) strength on the towplane end of the rope. The link consists of two Tost Insert # 5 links. One Single-insert round hole and one Reserve-insert oval hole. They are in a Tost protective sleeve with shackles.

The glider end has a weak link of 1/4 inch polypropylene rope (approximately 1050 pound breaking strength). The ring is on short piece of 1/2 inch to serve as a wear link.

Discovery Flights are available to the public on most weekends and statutory holidays from mid-May through to the end of October. These flights are offered on a “first-come, first-served” basis and we suggest you arrive at the Winnipeg Gliding Club airfield around 1030-1100. We do not take bookings for these flights, but welcome your phone calls to 204 735 2868 to arrange a flight, to discuss upcoming weekend weather or any other questions you may have. If by chance we are not home, please leave a message.

Large groups of 5 or more are sometimes better accommodated during the weekday evenings to ensure glider availability. See “Group Rates” for more details.

To fly at the Winnipeg Gliding Club, a person must be 12 years of age or older. Guests are asked to become a "one-day" members of the Club and sign a waiver before taking a flight.

* GST is included in all prices. We accept cash, checks and E-Transfers at the flight line after your flight. We do allow payment by credit card and do have a credit card terminal for point of sale transactions.

 The Classic Discovery Flight  $180

You and your qualified pilot will be towed to 3000 feet above ground level where you will release from the tow plane and experience the silent freedom of soaring as you glide back to the airport. (approximately 15 to 20 minutes).

The Hands On Flight  $210

You and your instructor will be towed to 3000 feet above ground level with the opportunity to have hands-on instruction for your first flight as a glider pilot.  If atmospheric conditions permit, you may experience the thrill of thermal soaring and stay aloft for a longer duration. If you choose to sign up for lessons, this flight may be logged as your first training flight towards earning your license, and the cost may be applied towards the Introduction to Gliding Package. (you must purchase the Package within the same season as your Discovery Flight in order to credit your Discovery Flight towards it).

The High Flyer  $250

You will be towed up along with your pilot to an altitude over a mile high, and release from the tow plane. If rising air currents (thermals) are present, this flight could last for up to 30-45 minutes - without an engine! It will be tailored to what you want to experience, from your first lesson to a fast-paced thrill ride, or gentle, relaxing glide back to the airport. The duration of this flight will vary depending on the type of flight you choose and the atmospheric conditions.

Group rates (by advance booking only and may be on a weekday afternoon or evening)

We offer the Classic Discovery flight to groups of 5 or more people at a reduced rate of $165 per person, or $160 per person if you have a group of 10 or more people (Note that the maximum number of flights we can accommodate in a single day is around 14). Groups are welcome to take advantage of our club house facilities and BBQs if they would like to prepare meals for their group.

Directions

Please do not follow a GPS device as visitors have gotten lost in previous years. Please heed the following directions explicitly.

Starting in Winnipeg, go to the southwest corner of the Perimeter Highway and turn southwest at the town of Oakbluff onto Highway #3 and continue for about 1 kilometer. As you approach the roundabout take the immediate right hand exit (marked Treherne) and merge onto highway 2 heading west. Continue on Highway #2 for about 20 kilometers to the town of Starbuck.

Continue on Highway #2 for about another 5.2 kilometers and turn south on Allinson Road. This turn-off is also marked by a green gliderport sign and a sign for the Starlite Colony (star shaped sign) is directly opposite Allinson Road.

The Winnipeg Gliding Club is located at the southeast corner of the junction of Allinson Road and the third road south of Highway #2 (approximately 5.2 kilometers south of Highway #2). You will be able to see a long white hangar with a metal roof, our training center and some long metal glider trailers.

Welcome to the Winnipeg Gliding Club.
